mysore consortium against cervical cancer
In India, a woman dies from cervical cancer every 8 minutes, resulting in nearly 80,000 deaths and broken families each year. Despite being almost 100% preventable, cervical cancer remains a significant public health challenge. HPV vaccination and early screening can virtually eliminate the disease, yet uptake remains critically low. According to the National Family Health Survey-5, only 1% of eligible adolescents have received HPV vaccination, and just 1.9% of eligible women have undergone cervical cancer screening. Addressing this crisis requires a large-scale, multilateral approach—one that no single entity can tackle alone.
To drive meaningful change, PHRII, in collaboration with the Global Initiative Against HPV and Cervical Cancer (GIAHC), leads the Mysore Consortium Against Cervical Cancer (MCACC). This initiative unites healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, academic institutions, and key stakeholders from both private and government sectors to optimize resources, scale impact, and engage communities in sustainable solutions. Together, we are committed to eliminating cervical cancer as a public health threat.
