PRERaNA health initiative
The Prerana Health Initiative, one of PHRII’s flagship programs since 2005, uniquely bridges research and service delivery to improve health outcomes in Mysore and surrounding rural areas.
Through Prerana, we provide low-cost, high-quality, evidence-based care to underserved populations. So far, over 20,000 community members have received medical consultations, treatment, and preventive services—often free of cost. In addition, more than 100,000 individuals have participated in health education sessions across a wide range of topics.
Prerana also functions as a research hub, leveraging patient data to strengthen evidence-based practices and shape more effective, inclusive care. By combining clinical service with community-based research, Prerana empowers marginalized communities to take charge of their health and helps advance innovations in prevention and treatment through both walk-in and mobile clinics.
prerana walk-in clinic
Our facilities include a free walk-in reproductive health clinic that provides comprehensive reproductive healthcare, including reproductive tract infection screening and education, antenatal and postnatal wellness education, and consultations for gynecological and menopausal health, with referrals to advanced care where necessary.
community outreach and mobile medical clinic
Regional disparities in healthcare access are influenced by immediate and opportunity costs, such as lost wages and transportation expenses. To address this, Prerana operates free mobile clinics across 200+ rural villages in Mysore District, delivering essential healthcare services. We prioritize low-income communities and marginalized groups such as transgender individuals, sex workers, and tribal communities, ensuring they have access to quality care. Our work spans healthcare access, research, training, and advocacy.

Breast Cancer Screening
India bears one of the world's highest cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) burdens, accounting for ~30% of all deaths. We offer awareness and early screening for risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol.
Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among Indian women, claiming one life every 7 minutes. We offer awareness, screening and treatment of pre-cancers using WHO guidelines.
PHRII offers reproductive health awareness and services tailored to every stage of a woman’s life, from adolescence to menopause and beyond. This includes reproductive tract infection screening, antenatal and postnatal wellness education, family planning services, and menstrual health consultations.
We work with populations whose occupations put them at risk for adverse health outcomes such as beedi workers, tobacco farmers, sex workers, and truck drivers. Health screenings are tailored to the needs of these vulnerable groups including physical and mental health.
As part of our commitment to holistic care, we provide mental health screenings and assess for social challenges, including gender-based violence, to ensure individuals receive the support and resources they need.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Indian women. PHRII promotes regular screening and early detection, which improve outcomes.
